Do we make our sites more visually attractive, or will that distract the potential client from the meat of the site?
Why make this an either/or question?
I recently added some Adobe flash files to my primary site at http://www.attorneyincourt.com.
I started out with several banners that have movement in them, and also several other images that have movement. About midway through adding them to various pages, the banners stopped working properly, so I ended up deleting them and just using a single moving "advertisement" on the web-site, though it was placed on a variety of pages.
The movement attracts attention, and merely states that having the right divorce attorney makes a world of difference. I then shows my picture, next a watch with a finger pointing to it over the caption "don't delay", and finally, the phrase "Protect Your Assets" over the name of the law firm.
Not a whole lot of substance, there, though perhaps just as much in the teaser videos that were pitched to me a couple of months ago.
At least I had control over the message (though the movement and graphics were pre-made by someone else).
Haven't had any feedback yet as to whether or not those viewing the site are more likely to give us a call or to hire us as their divorce attorney.
Though it makes ME feel good to see the "jazzed up" site, I do not know whether this will translate into more clients. At least the exercise caused me to contemplate the value message I wanted to convey in a slogan - look around to find the right attorney, don't delay, protect our assets. This is good advice to anyone facing a divorce, so I can feel good about the message. This, of course, is a prerequisite to putting anything on my web site.
Can a site be too jazzed up?
